On my painting table

I'm currently working on two minis this week: the champion of my Bretonnian foot knights and Drusilla, another female gladiator.

Just a couple of (pretty crappy) WIP pics until I can get some more painting time :-)

Hope to post some proper pics of the finished minis on the weekend. These progress pics are to keep me motivated! ;-)

Converted gladiatrix

This hoplomachus figure from Shadowforge was also a cadidate for becoming Xena, Warrior Princess. I changed my mind once my husband found a Reaper figure that had the right dress for Xena (which then became Livia, gladiatrix, because it annoyed me that she was wearing a helmet).

Anyway, this figure was converted by Christian to hold a sword instead of a spear:

Not the best pics, and somehow there's a purple tinge from the light shining on my makeshift white paper background. It was more a symptom of my boredom with my uni assignment than a proper photography session! :-o

Anyway, she's on my to do list to go along with Livia. Hope to have her painted soon!

Shadowforge mini hoard

So, I found my mini hoard of Shadowforge Greek fantasy figures. Can't wait to start on these!

Dark Temple Guard with spears:

And Dark Temple Scouts (archers):

Knight of the Realm

Here's the next member of the unit:

I noticed after taking the pictures that the black half of his surcoat had a chip on it that I didn't see last night when I painted him. I've now fixed it, but probably won't bother taking more pictures of him until he is based.

A knightly trio

And the first trio of knights is complete (sort of)! Here are some pictures of the two formerly shield-less guys with their comrade:

The blue one needs a bit more work I think, so no individual shots of him just yet. Here's the purple knight:

Pics to come of the blue knight once I fix him up a bit :-)

First completed foot knight for Warhammer 3rd edition

Finally finished one!! I didn't get as far as I'd hoped over the Easter weekend with these guys. I have the unfortunate tendency to get all excited about being "almost finished with my knights!!" and then being reminded that they also have shields ...

SO ... I have only fully completed one knight of the trio I started the other day; the others are awaiting their shields ...

The other two have been based, but I just have to add the shields and they'll be done. Then I'll move onto the Talisman priest and another couple of knights.

OR ... maybe I'll paint some of my new dwarf figures from White Knight - they just arrived yesterday! Got some nice dwarf knights on ponies (command unit) and some other foot soldiers that would make great longbeards ... Hmm, decisions, decisions ...

Blood Bowl Bunnies wish list

In my explorations of the Shadowforge  website, I came across these Gridiron Bunnies. I think they look pretty neat, so I'm going to start a new Blood Bowl team (yes, I know I haven't finished painting the Female Elf team yet)!

The team:

Coach, trainer and nurse:

Cheerleaders (not really convinced about these ... their heads look a bit odd):

I think I might not use the excessive B-based naming though ... it's kind of getting on my nerves after looking at all the minis names! :-S

Another gladiator pic and some cool stuff for my wish list

Here's a photo I took last night of Livia preparing to fight Oblivius (painted by Christian). I thought they looked pretty cool waiting in the archways of the ludus ...

I'm thinking of getting some more female gladiators ... perhaps the hoplomachus from Shadowforge:

And maybe some of these, also from Shadowforge:

And some centaurs as well!

As well as the Dark Temple Vestals.

Not really sure what I will use them for, but I really like the sculpts. We already have some of the Dark Temple Scouts for a "Medusa's Guard" sort of unit (one will have it's head unceremoniously chopped off and replaced with the head off a Mega Miniatures Medusa figure). Might get back onto that project after I finish off my 3rd edition Warhammer forces!

[EDIT] So, it turns out that I already have some of these! We bought them a couple of year ago now and I had completely forgotten about some of them. I have ticked off the ones I have as a virtual wish list for myself!

Livia, gladiatrix

Here is the finished mini! I've named her Livia, after Livia Drusilla, the wife of Augustus Caesar. Coincidentally, Xena's daughter is also named Livia - they nicked the character from the history books and stuck her in Sam Raimi's fantasy world ;-) I thought it a fitting name for this figure, as she was originally intended to be my Xena :-D

And now for the pics:

The shield design is a symbol of Apollo I found in an Osprey book about Greek Hoplites, and it's painted freehand:

And here she is fighting Oblivius in the arena!

Hope you like it! Comments welcome :-)
